Multivitamins help in the development of the fetus

Multivitamin supplements allow to reduce the number of babies born with low weight, daily administration strengthening the immune system and hemoglobin levels in the mother's body, leading to a better development of the fetus. Weight below 2.5 kilograms increases the risk of death and affects the physical and mental development of the baby. At maturity, these children are at greater risk of suffering from chronic diseases, such as diabetes.

The study conducted in Tanzania by a team of US and Tanzanian doctors included over eight thousand women in the ninth month of pregnancy. Half of these women took multivitamins daily: C, E and a variety of vitamin B, the others took placebo.

Vitamin A and zinc were not included in this vitamin cocktail because previous studies have indicated that they do not have a favorable effect on newborn weight.
