Vitamins and minerals added in dairy and cereals are not as good as those in fruits, vegetables and meat, nutritionists say. Milk fortified with vitamin D and calcium, yogurt with Omega 3, but also cereals with vitamins and minerals are just some of the fortified foods you can find in stores. In the short term, these can be an alternative for those who cannot have a balanced diet. Nutritionists warn you, however, that you do not need such products if you eat healthy and say that the nutrients you naturally find in fruits, vegetables, eggs and meat are more efficient.

Neither do vitamin C-enhanced juices replace nutrients from fruits and vegetables.

Cereals from white flour with added iron are recommended for pregnant women with intolerance to whole fiber. Nutritionists, however, point out that too much consumption of such products is not healthy because they also contain sugar or sweeteners. It is best that, besides fortified cereals, you should also eat egg yolk or liver because they are a natural source of iron.
