Information campaign "Uterine fibroma - find out, discuss, decide!" it is meant to draw attention to the increased incidence of fibroids among women of childbearing age and modern treatment options. Through this campaign, women are invited to attach a high interest to their health and to go to specialized control.
Uterine fibroids are the most common benign (non-cancerous) tumors of female sexual organs and generally occur in women of childbearing age. One of the most important factors favoring the appearance of uterine fibroids is hormonal disorder. According to a prestigious study, by the age of 35, 40% of women develop uterine fibroids, the percentage rising to 70% among women around the age of 50. Statistical data indicate a very high incidence of the disease that affects both the emotional status and the performance of the diagnosed woman.
In general, uterine fibroids are asymptomatic, however, when there are symptoms, the most common are excessive bleeding, abdominal pain and anemia. Even in the absence of symptoms, people affected by uterine fibroids may experience spontaneous abortions, infertility, premature births and other complications. Diagnosis can be done by a simple ultrasound. The uterine fibroids can start from a few centimeters and can grow in size and number, even reaching a few kilograms, when they are not detected and treated. The visit to the gynecologist is therefore essential for the early detection of uterine fibroids.
"The visit to the gynecologist should be part of a prophylactic attitude of women. With the onset of menstruation, women should go periodically to the control, every six months or at least once a year. The alarm signals for an emergency gynecological consultation are abnormal menstruation, fatigue, and pain during sexual intercourse ", recommends Dr. Zorela-Adriana Sgarbura - primary obstetrics-gynecology doctor, doctor in medical sciences.
Studies show that women wait up to 5 years to consult a gynecologist, which leads to increased health risks, but also the subsequent need for irreversible surgical procedures, such as hysterectomy. However, in some cases, this medical procedure is the only treatment option. The decision on the best treatment will be based on a discussion with the specialist doctor starting from the particularities of each patient.
"The uterine fibroid does not have to change your priorities in life, which is why we have to learn to get a specialized check every 6 months. We have learned from our own experience that such an illness develops quickly, even in a few months, so a timely check can save you from irreversible surgical procedures and can help you maintain your physical and emotional health. We should not be afraid or ashamed of such a diagnosis, because uterine fibroids are a condition of women today . It is important to consult a specialist twice a year, and once diagnosed, discuss with him the treatment solutions ", said Mihaela Tatu, brand ambassador of the campaign" Uterine fibroma - find out, discuss, decide! ".
