"Garden with Remedies", the sector of medicinal and useful plants within the "Dimitrie Brandza" Botanical Garden in Bucharest has been completely refurbished, as part of a corporate social responsibility initiative, Secom®. The project aimed to arrange an area of 1800 square meters, signaling the area and plants and was carried out in two stages.
"Garden with Remedies" is the result of a long-term partnership between "Dimitrie Brandza" Botanical Garden and Secom® and aims to increase the degree of information on the benefits of herbs for health and to give the public a space where they can become familiar. with hundreds of medicinal plants.
The project started in 2016, when works were carried out on 60% of the surface of the sector, and was resumed in spring 2017, when cleaning, cleaning and maintenance of the entire surface was carried out. Subsequently, an anti-weed foil was applied, over which the decorative bark and ornamental stone were applied. At this stage soil fertilization treatments and phytosanitary treatments were applied for the green maze of Buxus sempervirens.
To facilitate the maintenance of the area, Secom® donated "Dimitrie Brandza" Botanical Gardens tools, fertilizer and irrigation equipment.
Within the project were introduced some new species of plants and were labeled. Thus, visitors can find out the names of the plants, their origin and health benefits. The more than 300 plant species are segmented according to the therapeutic action, in 26 sectors. Thus, Bucharest residents can see which plants support the immune, cardiovascular or tradition of natural cosmetics.
"A garden grows and cares. We are for the second year with the Bucharest Botanical Garden and we are trying to respect the commitment we made last year when we launched the project" Garden with Remedies ". In a fast-paced world. , in which the stress is at maximum levels, we believe that we need even more to return to the nature and the resources that it offers us. In Bucharest Botanic Garden Secom® brings such an area to the attention of the general public, "said Lucia Costea, managing partner Secom®.
The sector of medicinal and useful plants was arranged between 1886-1907, with the arrangement of the Botanical Garden in Cotroceni road. The area is distinguished by the unique form given by the green maze, the unique design made by a living fence from Buxus sempervirens and the species of medicinal plants of spontaneous flora.
"Throughout the approximately 130 years of existence the medicinal and useful plants sector has not changed its structure. Maybe only the types and the number of species hosted. It certainly had better periods and less good periods. We are pleased with the Secom® proposal for the revitalization of the sector, and after the two years of collaboration we can say that I did not make a mistake at all because today "Garden with Remedies" has another appearance, "said prof. dr. Paulina Atanasiu, Director of the "Dimitrie Brandza" Botanical Garden Bucharest.
"Garden with Remedies" is located near the greenhouses and can be visited daily between 8.00 - 20.00 (period (March 16 - October 15) and between 9.00-17.00 (October 16 - March 15).
