Canned foods cannot replace fruit

It is preferable for infants to consume foods in which there is no food additive to protect them. Clever - food with vanilla taste for infants and children over 5 months - contains apple and has a vanilla taste, "enriched with vitamin C", the product being sterilized. It is a canned sterilized apple with added sugar (sucrose), citric acid and ascorbic acid. From the point of view of biological value it is an unbalanced product, having an excess of carbohydrates exacerbated by the addition of refined sugar, explains Gheorghe Mencinicopschi, director of the Institute of Food Research. The product analyzed being sterilized no longer contains active enzymes nor the initial amount of vitamins, antioxidants and other biologically active factors.
If there is no other option, the product can be consumed by infants, but it is preferable for them to be given fresh fruit preparations, not heat treated, to benefit from the contribution of nutrients and natural active valuable nutrients, macro and microelements, vitamins, enzymes, antioxidants and other biologically active substances, detail our specialist. Canned fruits and vegetables can not replace fresh ones.
