Guide for each child's school year

Guide for each child's school year

Your child has just finished kindergarten or class zero (preparatory), summer vacation is over, and soon, he will meet with primary education. Your mind is burdened by the long line of problems, crises, themes, notes, tests or difficulties that the child will face in the first years of school.

Before traveling with your mind so far, it is best to know what to expect in your child's first years of school.

Find out how you can help him go through school as smoothly as "fish through the water", but also enjoy this wonderful period of childhood!

Class I

Don't let the child's first year of school take you by surprise and put a strong emotional pressure on his shoulders. If you did not go through class 0 or change school, this is the time when you will encounter new children, places and teachers. Prepare for change at least two weeks before starting school:

- visit the school and class in which you will learn about 2-3 days;

- show him the surroundings, the road to the house and the main attractions on the road;

- Seek the teacher and get acquainted with her;

- find out if other children from the neighborhood or area are learning in the same class with them and "tighten" the connections with them - organize play meetings;

- talks with him about the first day of school, from the expectations, fears and curiosities he has.

In the first year of school, you will not have to deal with the chills, absences and emotional dramas of the child, but you will have to face possible problems of adaptation to the new context. In order to make the child's accommodation easier, he or she organizes (not very often) play meetings between himself and colleagues, in order to get to know each other better and keep in touch with the teacher.

Also, make it a stable schedule during the week - waking / sleeping hours, meals, school hours, homework, play, cleaning, etc. - and make sure you respect it. The stability will give her the feeling of comfort she needs during this period.

Class II

Starting with the second grade, the homework assignments will be assigned more than in the first year of school. You need to take a look at your child's textbooks to keep up to date with the new curriculum so you can help with the homework.

If the first year was more of accommodation, the child now enters the "bread" in matters.

It goes from the simple acquisition of vocabulary notions to more complex calculations, sentences, compositions and writings. Follow him carefully.

It is also the period when you have to take a close look at the friendship relationships that the child has developed in class or in school.

If he hasn't made any friends yet, he needs a helping hand from you. Work with him on social skills and teach him how to make new friends without being overbearing or insistent.

Class III

In the third year of school, the child discovers new ways of learning. You will be able to figure out what style of learning it has depending on how it absorbs the easiest information.

It is possible that, until now, the little one has already made a group of friends. But it is also the period when it may have to do with bullying or insults from colleagues (the phenomenon of bullying).

It is important to always keep the lines of communication open with the child and gain his confidence, so that he will tell you everything that happens to him at school, all the concerns and worries that he has regarding hours, colleagues or teachers.

In the third grade, the child begins to develop more and more abstract thinking and to understand concepts that do not correspond in reality, which is a sign of his intellectual evolution.

He needs help, but with patience and tact, you will help him to easily go through the greatest learning difficulties of this period.

Class IV

In the fourth grade, the child makes the gradual transition from "learning to read" to "reading to learn". He has already learned the mysteries of reading, and now books are becoming learning tools. He will have more and more homework and will be encouraged to read more, during which time it is good to cultivate his passion for reading individually.

Living in modern times, when the Internet or computer cannot be separated from the learning process, the child is encouraged at school to use modern technology for teaching purposes.

You need to draw limits on the use of these virtual devices, so that they do not fall into the passion of addiction. It is a difficult period from a social point of view.

It deals with conflicts between colleagues, with wickedness and teasing in the usual interactions. It must be learned to solve them peacefully, to understand them and to overcome them with their foreheads, so that their self-esteem and self-confidence are not disturbed.

The 5th class

Starting with the 5th grade, the child enters another stage of development and learning, as it is the year in which he makes the transition from primary to secondary school. The early teens and the changes of this period are beginning to make their presence felt.

You may notice minor mischief, sudden mood swings and opposition (rebellion) behavior both at home and at school.

It is advisable to treat them with great delicacy, so as not to escalate conflicts and help them understand what is going on with them. There are many changes at school level that can put pressure on him.

The subjects are complicated, the teacher disappears from the landscape, one teacher is assigned to each subject and it is possible to change the class or part of the colleagues.

It is time to resume the accommodation process, to be with him, to discuss the problems, discontents and fears he faces and to try to make the transition easier for him.
